In January 2016, the Greenwood Food Bank, a vital resource for the homeless and low-income communities north of the ship canal, lost its funding from the City of Seattle, forcing it to close and leaving thousands of community members without a source of basic nutrition.
Responding quickly to the crisis, FamilyWorks, the Wallingford-based food bank and family resource center, has partnered with the Salvation Army to create a branch food bank in the Greenwood area. Years of careful stewardship and generous support from the community has enabled us to respond quickly, but the new responsibility will more than double the area we are called on to serve.
Fortunately, hundreds of employers around the Pacific Northwest, including Microsoft, Boeing, and the Gates Foundation, generously match charitable donations given by their employees, dollar for dollar or more.
We open our new branch on April 20th. Will you help? We will guide you in working with your employer to double the impact of your generous assistance. Thank you!
