I am interested in joining a committee:

Committees are the backbone of the organization. Depending on workload, committees meet once monthly or every other month. Meetings are generally by teleconference, but may occur in-person from time to time. (Check all that apply)

10 Most Endangered Committee: The 10 Most Committee will work on an ad hoc basis annually to solicit, review, and compile endangered buildings and sites within New Jersey for inclusion in the annual 10 Most Endangered Places listing.

Building Industry Network (BIN) Committee: The Building Industry Network (BIN) Committee will be responsible for maintaining and promoting Preservation New Jersey’s Building Industry Network as a membership-based database of professionals involved in the preservation or development of historic properties, which may include general contractors, construction managers, specialized trade contractors, architects, engineers, real estate developers and Realtors, attorneys, suppliers, accountants, fabricators and crafts persons, etc. The BIN Committee will also plan programs and tours that enable BIN members to network, collaborate, and educate one another and the broader public about best practices and critical issues. (BIN members get priority for the BIN Committee.)

Development Committee: The Development Committee will work to develop funding sources for Preservation New Jersey, by building membership, diversifying revenue streams, and soliciting grants.

Education Committee: The Education Committee will work to educate the public, governmental officials at all levels, and other organizations about the value and benefits of historic preservation, and about issues affecting localities and sites in New Jersey where historically valuable buildings and sites exist; and identify, participate in and host workshops and training opportunities that will increase public awareness of the intrinsic values of historic resources, as well as train and inform the public and private sectors on a broad array of tools for historic preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration.

Governance Committee: The Governance Committee will monitor governance and compliance issues, including the periodic review of the organizational bylaws, the creation and/or updating if standard operating procedures, conducting annual meetings, and filing the appropriate paperwork with state authorities. The governance committee makes reports and recommendations to the board on new and evolving compliance matters.

Legislative & Policy Committee: The Legislative & Policy Committee (LPC) will advance the mission of Preservation New Jersey by monitoring Federal, State and local issues and ordinances to both protect and further historic preservation in New Jersey.

Public Relations Committee: The Public Relations Committee (PR Committee) will engage the Preservation New Jersey (PNJ) membership, the general public, and others with influence related to the organization’s historic preservation mission. The PR Committee will employ digital and print media to disseminate the principals, goals, work, and results of PNJ. The committee is responsible for maintaining a branding and marketing strategy, obtaining content and providing editorial review for the organization newsletter, and providing general guidance to staff on all public relations related activities.

Threatened Properties Committee: The Threatened Properties Property Committee (TPC) will manage and respond to inquiries, reports, or alerts from the public, members, or Board of Directors concerning real or perceived threats to historic properties.

1867 Committee: The 1867 Sanctuary Committee is the PNJ entity which is responsible for all aspects of PNJ’s only brick-and-mortar preservation project, the 1867 Sanctuary at Ewing, gained through a 50-year lease signed in 2012 with the Presbytery of New Brunswick, and serving as an adaptive reuse demonstration project of an historic site previously scheduled for demolition. Responsibilities include the restoration, maintenance and enhancements of the 150+ year old building, its adaptive reuse as an arts and culture center, and all communication, performance-booking, fund raising, and legal and financial records, oversight and compliance associated with these activities and responsibilities.
