Join us for a spring birding walk at Fruitgrowers Reservoir on Monday, April 24th! Fruitgrowers Reservoir is a renowned birding spot in Harts Basin just northeast of Delta. Designated an Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society, it is known for being a critical stop-over for 60% of the world’s Greater Sandhill Crane population.
We will be hiking along the western edge of the reservoir as well as the northern edge along the road to view Harts Basin to see various species of waterfowl, Sandhill Cranes, raptors, shorebirds, and some songbirds. This is an easy hike along the road and through grass with sometimes uneven footing.
We will meet at 8:30am at Fruitgrower's Reservoir east of Eckert, or at 7:30am in front of WSCC (204 Poplar) in Paonia if you want to carpool. We'll send an email a few days before the hike with additional details and logistics.
What to bring: Good boots, water, sunscreen, extra layers, hiking poles, snacks, binoculars, a bird book if you have one.
