Military Connections - Program Descriptions and Interest Survey

Thank you for your interest in Military Connections at Dreams on Horseback! Below you will learn about the suite of programming that is offered for our veterans and active military, and in some cases their family members.

Current Active Military, Veteran, and Military Family Programming:

Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) for Active Duty and Veterans. Participants will enjoy a ground-based, group interaction with our horses. By participating two Monday evenings each month from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m, you will find your confidence growing as you learn to work with our horses. You may also develop new friendships with others who are serving or who have served. This program is hosted by professionals who are trained in methods that will challenge and support you as you discover truths about horses and yourself. You are welcome to bring your spouse or significant other with you.
Therapeutic Riding Lessons. Riding lessons offer veterans the ability to tackle their individual challenges from atop one of our kind and gentle therapy horses.  You will be taught by trained and certified instructors. We do have a lift for those for whom mounting is difficult or impossible. Therapeutic riding is taught by certified therapeutic riding instructors who can help you reach your physical goals through riding.
Friday Sampler is a four week sampler program in which you will learn about horse safety, grooming and tacking, horseback riding, and cart driving. This is a four week program meeting each Friday from 7pm - 8:30pm. Enrollment is flexible and some months may involve active military/veterans while others may be reserved for military families.
Family Riding is an eight-week riding program for a service member/veteran and one child (ages 7 to 18). These lessons are offered on Saturdays from 11 am - 12pm. Our Military Connections Family Programs are designed not only to build confidence and trust between parent and child, but more importantly, to bring joy to the parent/child relationship by providing an opportunity for both parent and child to learn something new together at our stables.

Volunteering can be an important part of developing positive relationships in the community. Opportunities abound at Dreams on Horseback from side-walking in our therapeutic lessons, volunteering to support other veterans, or providing stall or grounds care.
