COVID-19 Public Health PSA Poster Contest

Open to artists ages 7 and older in Fresno County. Entries accepted May 6-29, 2020. Ten (10) prize winners announced online June 4, 2020.

As the City of Fresno prepares to re-open select businesses starting May 11, the Fresno Arts Council would like your help to remind the community to continue observing public health guideliness recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Eligibility

Please check your eligibility before you begin:

1. Are you at least 18 years old? (This includes applicants filling out this form on the behalf of a minor, i.e. Youth Artist.)
2. Are you a permanent resident of Fresno County, and can you provide a verified street address?
3. Are you not affiliated, in any way, with the Fresno Arts Council as either an employee, board member, director, officer, vendor, sponsor, or immediate family member?

If you answered “yes” to all the questions above, please proceed to the application form below. If you answered “no” to any of the questions above, please stop here: you are not eligible to apply.

Here are the full contest rules of entry:

  1. The open call to artists for the COVID-19 Public Health PSA Poster content period is Wednesday, May 6, through Friday, May 29, 2020. Ten (10) prizes will be announced online on Thursday, June 4, 2020: five (5) prizes in the Youth category and five (5) prizes in the Adult category will be selected from all submissions after May 29, 2020. Individual prize will be one (1) $50-value gift card to Allard's Art Supplies.
  2. Applicant must be at least 18 years old by the start date of this open call for artists, i.e. May 6, 2020, and be a permanent resident in Fresno County with a verifiable street address. If you are completing this entry form on the behalf of a Youth Artist, the person completing the form is considered the "applicant" and must also be at least 18 years of age by May 6, 2020. (There is an additional line to identify the name of the Youth Artist: optional)
  3. Applicant may not be affiliated professionally with the Fresno Arts Council staff or board of directors such as a staff member, independent contractor, board members, or immediate family member.
  4. All submitted poster designs must include the following elements:
    1. Fresno Arts Council Logo (official version only, no tampered or altered logos) available via Dropbox here.
    2. At least one (1) of the four messages regarding COVID-19 public health protocols as determined by the World Health Organization (WHO):
      • Wash your hands with soap and water or use a 70% strength alcohol-based hand sanitizer
      • Maintain social distancing up to 6 feet apart from other individuals
      • Wear a cloth face mask in public and do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands
      • If feeling sick, self-quarantine. If severely ill, contact your doctor or local testing center to schedule a medical appointment

  5. All submitted poster designs must include original artwork created by the applicant or youth artist.
    1. Visual elements may NOT include clip art or templates, including layouts or any other graphic design elements whether commercial or non-commercial.
    2. Image files must be submitted in either .jpg or .png format, and at least 300 dpi resolution. 
    3. If unable to submit a digital illustration, applicant may submit a photograph or scan of the original artwork as either a .jpg or .png file. No .pdf files please.
    4. All designs must be formatted to fit a 11x17-inch sheet of ledger- or A3-sized paper.
    5. The Fresno Arts Council may request that files be resized, depending on print and Web campaign needs.
  6. Visual elements must be suited for general audiences: obscene and/or graphic depictions of violence, nudity, sex, drugs and alcohol, smoking, weapons, or perceptibly offensive and insensitive depictions of any group of individuals may disqualify an entry for consideration.
  7. Entries must be submitted online through this portal no later than Friday, May 29, 2020, for consideration. No emailed or printed entries will be accepted.
  8. There is no cost to enter, and applicant may submit as many entries as desired.
  9. In the rare event that any portion of the application has been determined to be falsified, whether in question of the applicant's eligibility and/or the originality of poster design submitted, the applicant's submission will be disqualified from the contest.
  10. The artist(s) of the ten (10) winning poster designs will be provided confirmation of their prize winning(s) by the Fresno Arts Council, as well as a media release form regarding their artwork submitted for the public service campaign. Ten (10) prize winners will be publicly announced by the Fresno Arts Council online on Thursday, June 4, 2020. Each prize is a $50-value gift card to Allard's Art Supplies in Fresno, CA.
