Habitat Gardening for Native Pollinators

Sunday, July 28 at 9:30 am

Join us in Pitney Meadow's Community Garden for a conversation about habitat gardening to support our native pollinators and the importance of planting larval host plants. Pollinators play an essential role in plant reproduction but their populations are under threat. We'll discuss the best things you can do to rewild your yard and transform it into a pollinator haven.

There will be 30 minutes of informational lecture and 30 minutes of group discussion and Q&A.

This workshop will be led by Sustainable Saratoga's Executive Director, Kelsey Trudell, committee members Dianna Goodwin, Chris Burghart, Johanna Garrison, and Wendy Mahaney, and Pitney Meadow's Stewardship and Special Projects Coordinator, Joyce Carroll.

Habitat Gardening for Native Pollinators is co-sponsored by Pitney Meadows Community Farm, Sustainable Saratoga, and SoBro Conservancy

Sustainable Saratoga is a not-for-profit organization that promotes sustainable practices and the protection of natural resources, through education, advocacy and action, for the benefit of current and future generations in the Saratoga Springs area. The organization's projects and events focus on 5 categories within sustainability: zero waste, urban forestry, pollinators, land use, and climate and energy.

Founded in 2016, Pitney Meadows Community Farm’s mission is to celebrate and explore agricultural education, healthy food production, and recreation on this preserved working farm. Located on 166 acres in the heart of the City of Saratoga Springs and preserved in perpetuity as a working farm, Pitney Meadows is a unique resource. We're committed to being good stewards of the land and serving the community that invested their tax dollars to preserve the Farm as open space.

SoBro Conservancy is a non-profit orgaization dedicated to conserving vacant urban parcels and transforming them into pollinator-friendly green spaces, while educating how such green spaces strengthen the web of life on which human well-being depends.

This workshop is rain or shine, if it is raining we will meet inside Bill's Barn on-site. In the event of inclement weather (ex. thunderstorms) we will cancel.

Our Try and Learn workshops are designed to ensure optimal experience for participants, instructors, and staff. To achieve this, we must have a minimum of 5 participants per session and utilize resources and time effectively. In the event that a workshop does not reach the minimum requirement, we will contact registrants to discuss alternative arrangements, i.e., rescheduling or providing refunds. Your experience is important to us, and we're committed to a positive outcome for all involved.
