IMMERSION: Rhythms of the Diaspora

Dance for Joy Website (1).png

Cumbe Community!!!  We invite you to dive deeply with us into ancestral rhythms from Africa- powerful beats that have sustained us for centuries and continue to inspire our dance and music today.

Immersion, the culminating show for Cumbe's annual Dance for Joy! performance workshop series, shines a spotlight on the journey of African dance and drumming across the Atlantic.  Rooted in the motherland, these traditions evolved and flourished in the Caribbean and the Americas.  Experience the transformative joy of these African arts, filled with wisdom that has allowed Black people in Africa and the diaspora to survive and thrive.

Journey with us and immerse yourself in:

  • Belly Dance with Jaida
  • Traditional and Contemporary Congolese Dance with Andoche Loubaki
  • Drumming from the Ivory Coast with Vado Diomandé
  • Rabòday from Haiti with Robenson Mathurin
  • Afro Fusion Dance with Tamara Jones
  • Dunham Jazz inspired choreography from Cumbe's new performance company, RISE, and Candice Michelle Franklin
  • Haitian Folkloric Dance and Konpa with Julio Jean
  • Afro-Brazilian Dance with Quenia Ribeiro
