Telling Tales Out of School 2020

The Student Advocacy Center presents: "Telling Tales Out of School," a virtual storytelling fundraising event. Come and celebrate the art and craft of storytelling, while supporting the Student Advocacy Center and our work keeping students in school.

Friday, May 22, 2020. This year the event will be livestreamed.

Tickets: $30 / $10 with Student (middle school and up welcome)

Co-Hosts Jessica "Decky" Alexander (Professor and Director, Engage@EMU at Eastern Michigan University) and Derrick Jackson, Director at the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
Leo Sheng, a star of Showtime's The L Word: Generation Q, a trans activist, and a former SAC intern who grew up in Ypsilanti and was active as a teen at Neutral Zone.
Daicia Price, LMSW, Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work at University of Michigan, who will share her personal experience of being kicked out of school and navigating homelessness.
Marina Jimenez, a Ferris State University student who became a 4.0 college student after experiencing foster care and family loss.
Honorees Linda Edwards-Brown, retired Washtenaw County Trial Court Juvenile Division Administrator, and Kelly Mickel, principal at Erickson Elementary School, Ypsilanti Community Schools.
Plus: Typewriter Poems are back in a surprise way.
