Chicago Muslims Green Team · 2023 Pledge to Take Actions

Thank you for adopting the Muslim Climate Compasssion Pledge

Here are the list of actions to follow-up the pledge and receive the Green Mosque Bagde.

Mandatory (in 3 months after taking the pledge):

1. Form a Green Team at your mosque consists of at least 3 members.

2. Collaborate with CMGT to organize Green Team Training (online/in-person/hybrid).

3. For mosques in Chicago: send at least one Green Team member to join CMGT Tree Planting Project.

Optional (Choose at least 3 actions in one year to receive Level 1 Green Mosque Badge):

The 2023 Green Ramadan, Eid ul Fitr, and Earth Day Celebrations

Green Khutbah during Ramadan

At iftar, replace styrofoam and plastic containers with compostable food containers and utensils

At iftar, stop providing water bottles and encourage ummah to bring their own water bottle

At iftar, reduce food waste and hire composting service to pick up food waste

A Resilient Ummah

Create or participate at the Community Garden

Host a workshop on urban gardening skills to achieve food security

Host a workshop on circular economy to create a sustainable source of income

Host a workshop on a healthy, holistic, eco-friendly lifestyle based on the Islamic teaching

Organize Citizen Science activities to monitor water, air, soil qualities and learn the changes of our biodiversity due to Climate Change

Reduce water usage by upgrading the plumbing

Provide rain barrel at mosque to collect rain water and participate in flood prevention activities

Host a workshop on DIY Green Cleaner

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

Collaborate with CMGT to organize energy audit

Follow up with recommendation from the energy audit to reduce electric bill

Organize Solar Webinar

Install Solar Panel at the mosque or Islamic Center

Green Space and Outdoor Activities

Plant trees around the mosque

Create bees and butterflies friendly native plants garden around the mosque

Organize outdoor activities (hiking, camping, kayaking, etc)

Waste Management

Host a workshop on 3R (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse)

Host a workshop on composting

Host a Spring Cleaning or Community Garage Sales activities
