For many children, a cancer diagnosis can have a dramatic impact on their ability to participate in activities that might seem like a typical part of growing up. Hospital visits, treatments, family tension and financial stressors are only part of the experience that our children and families go through. Just imagine being 5 years old and no longer able to run and play with other kids in your class--if you're still allowed to attend school. You might even be around 10 years old and you've been feeling the tension at home between mom and dad due to the large financial burden they now face. Even though they never say it, you can't help but feel responsible for causing so much stress. How about teens? How hard it must be as a 16-year-old waking up in the morning to face not only the normal self-esteem issues such as dating, acne or grades, but also having an extra hurdle called "cancer".
