Freedom House Detroit offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. Some opportunities are ongoing; others are time-limited. Open opportunities are listed in the first question below. If you do not see an opportunity listed, it is not open for registration at this time. 

Please allow our staff ten business days to respond to your registration. They will reach out by email to provide additional details and schedule a call. Registration is not a guarantee of placement.

If selected, volunteers will be required to a) Fill out a volunteer application, b) Sign a confidentiality agreement, and c) Log their service hours on a weekly basis.

Volunteer Opportunities
Opportunity Description
Voices of Freedom Event Meet new people and build capacity by volunteering the day-of or for prep or follow-up: register guests, take photos, guide guests through the event, accept donations, and more.
Social Media Ambassador Use your social media savvy to expand our supporter network and spark conversations about Freedom House Detroit. We supply the content; you supply the network. 
Interpretation and Translation Lift our clients' voices: Remote and in-person interpretation and translation needs are available.
Adopt a Party Help a refugee create new memories and start new traditions! Provide the supplies and food for one of our many celebrations throughout the year! 
FreedomCares/Cares4SW Health Disparities Initiative Reduce health disparities in Southwest Detroit: Help out at a community health event: set up, tear down, interpret or translate, data entry, and more.
Board of Directors Subcommittees Subcommittee members are not board members, but these roles allow volunteers to get familiar with the organization and guide its decision making. Subcommittee roles allow volunteers to prepare to take on a board of directors position in the future.
Winter Holiday Volunteer Help us celebrate the season of light this winter. We rely on volunteers to help us plan winter holiday celebrations, and collect/distribute gifts.
Host a Drive Organize a supplies drive to help meet the needs of our residents. Get in touch with our team to learn what we have a need for at this time. 
Host a Fundraiser At Freedom House Detroit, every dollar raised goes directly to providing crucial services like shelter, legal assistance, healthcare, and education. Host a fundraiser to help your friends, family, or professional networks make an impact.
General Volunteer Are you open to volunteering in a variety of ways? We will be sure to stay in touch as general volunteer opportunities come up.
