One moment please...
AWB 2018 Participant Application

Thank you for your interest in going on an Alternative Winter Break with Michigan Hillel! On this trip you'll create new friendships, volunteer, learn more about the community and the work we're doing, explore the city, and have a unique Shabbat experience! We are excited for you to join us on this service-learning experience.

Our trip to New Orleans, Louisiana, is in partnership with the Center for Ethical Living & Social Justice Renewal.

On this trip, we'll examine the history of the city, learn about the levee system breaches and floods, and discuss how the recovery process has evolved since Hurricane Katrina. We'll eat beignets from Cafe Du Monde, explore the French Quarter, and enjoy a unique Shabbat experience!

There will also be down time for you to explore on your own or catch up on some sleep.

The current estimated cost of this trip is $300. This includes housing, transportation on the ground, meals, excursions around the city, and the CEL-SJR program fee. This does not include air travel to or from New Orleans. Depending on the size of the trip, we may decide to do group travel back to Ann Arbor on January 8th.

We hope to lower the price through different fundraising opportunities. We have scholarships available as well. If the cost is an issue, please contact Rebecca Grbinich, the Social Justice Fellow, at grbinich@umich.edu.

We are looking forward to learning and working with you soon!

Sincerely,
Alt Winter Break Student Leaders

Before you are formally accepted to join the trip, you will be required to meet with a student leader. The purpose of this interview is to go over the intentions of going on an Alternative Winter Break, for us to answer any questions you may have, and for us both to get to know each other a little more. This interview is not meant to deter anyone from applying to go. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Rebecca, the social justice fellow, at grbinich@umich.edu.
