Application 2019-20

Applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. Apply by Saturday August 17th, 2019 to secure your interview.

Thank you for your interest in Out in Front! If you haven't already, we encourage you to review our website before applying.

Out In Front actively seeks and encourages people of all races, ethnicities, genders, and cultures to apply to our leadership program. We recognize that historic and structural systems of racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression have caused harm and stifled opportunities for some people in LGBTQ communities, and want to open doors for learning and network building. Out In Front embraces the power and contributions of varied perspectives from folks through their diverse and lived experiences. We are open to all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, color, gender identity or presentation, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, age, religion, immigration status, or presence of sensory, mental or physical disability.

Further, we welcome applications regardless of a person’s socio-economic standing. In this regard, if you are interested in learning more about tuition support, please see our Tuition Policy.

Please read the application carefully and answer thoughtfully. We're looking for a diversity of opinions, backgrounds, and circumstances... don't just tell us what you think we want to hear! Because we're asking you to reflect thoughtfully, the application will take some time. Because of technical limitations, the application has to be completed in one session. Consider starting your answers in a text document on your computer and pasting them over once you're done. Paper applications are available by email request to Megan Duncan, Program Manager, at mduncan@outinfrontseattle.org

Because of the time commitment, Out In Front may not be for everyone, but we aim to serve everyone with an interest in LGBTQ leadership. The idea behind the application and interview process is to encourage you to think about where you've been and how you'd like to grow in your community leadership, and through that give you an opportunity to introduce yourself to us.

Consider having your up-to-date resume as a Word document or PDF ready before you begin completing your application.

Please also ensure you carefully read and fully understand the Participation Agreement at the end of the application. Out In Front expects all participants to fully abide by the provisions set forth in the Participation Agreement. By submitting this application, you're agreeing that your participation in Out In Front will be bound by those terms.

Out In Front is deeply committed to socio-economic diversity in our cohorts, and as such, we prioritize making the program affordable to all participants, regardless of financial circumstances. We are proud that we have never had to turn away a participant for financial reasons. We seek participants who come from diverse personal and professional backgrounds.  We welcome applications from people who are working in the non-profit, public, and private sectors, as well as applications from students and people who are currently unemployed. All are encouraged to apply.

Out In Front certification and participation in the graduation ceremony are dependent on having met your tuition obligations.

Sliding Scale Information and Request Form

Thank you for your interest in applying to Out In Front. As noted in the application, Out In Front is deeply committed to socio-economic diversity in our cohorts, and we will make every effort to make the program affordable for you.

Please note that in making a sliding scale tuition request, applicants are asked to consider outside funding sources that might be available to them. These include contributions from friends, family, employer, faith community, crowdfunding campaigns, and other sources. Please also consider carefully what value you would place on an experience such as Out In Front. We recognize that many LGBTQ individuals have faced circumstances (e.g. employment discrimination, loss of family support) that have created financial difficulties, but we also view the process of securing outside support as a first act of leadership in the program.

While Out In Front makes efforts to honor the proposed tuition amount an applicant requests, tuition amounts are based on the number of requests received and the amount of funds available each year.

Please estimate the total amount of tuition that you will be able to pay, including all outside funding sources available to you. We ask all participants to pay a minimum of $250 toward their tuition; Out In Front can provide applicants with resources to help in personal fundraising toward this amount. In order to make the best use of our limited tuition assistance, we encourage participants to pay the highest sliding scale rate affordable for them. Please note also that tuition can be paid in three installments. Full tuition without assitance is $1,500.

Please estimate the total amount of tuition that you will be able to pay, including all outside funding sources available to you.

Please list your annual income; if you receive support from a spouse, partner, or other individual, include that amount in your total. Note that we collect this information both to help with tuition assistance requests and also to help us track socio-economic diversity in the program.

Please explain the reasons why you are requesting to pay tuition on a sliding scale.

Participate in Good Faith
Out In Front’s curriculum is designed to challenge its participants. Moreover, Out In Front’s cohort is selected with diversity of opinion and background in mind. The program is in many ways intended to represent a microcosm of what participants can expect to face working in and/or for the LGBTQ community. While Out In Front’s organizers work diligently to provide a safe environment for all of our participants, discussions and activities will sometimes deal with topics that are of a sensitive nature. Participants are expected to conduct themselves respectfully, in good faith, and with an open mind.
