In the wake of the Coronavirus Pandemic, many in our community have been met with exceeding financial hardships, loss of hope, and despair. While Louisiana has seen positive and improving trends, COVID19 leaves an outstanding concern of what is to come in our community. In our continuous efforts to give back, especially in times of grave uncertainty, we have partnered with St. Augustine High School of New Orleans in creating The Cheek Law Firm Scholarship and Emergency Assistance Fund.
As a respected New Orleans Personal Injury Law Firm who focuses on Mesothelioma, Asbestos and Talc litigation, at The Cheek Law Firm, we understand the importance of working hard to help those in unfortunate situations. Founding attorney, Lindsey Cheek, moved to our great state of Louisiana in 2015 and opened The Cheek Law Firm a few short days thereafter. The community of New Orleans welcomed her with open arms, and she credits much of The Cheek Law Firm's success to-date to the kind and supportive people of New Orleans, where she now calls her "forever" home. When COVID19 crisis hit, it was without question that she would do anything and everything she can to "pay it forward" to her New Orleans community and family. As such, St. Augustine High School has continuously demonstrated the same ideals and goals that we strive to achieve in our daily endeavors, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for an opportunity to contribute to the continued education of our future successors.
Founded in 1951, St. Augustine High School of New Orleans, a predominantly African American male Catholic high school, touts a 98% matriculation rate into a 4-year University or College. Its graduates are leaders in many fields around the US and most notably in the City of New Orleans. At St. Augustine these young men are vested with the skills and discipline not only to succeed at their next level of education but also to pursue individual talents, interests and instill in each student the responsibilities of leadership in family, church, and community over the arc of their lives.
This is a dollar for dollar donation to St. Augustine High School, specifically in two areas of support: Scholarship Awards driven by academic achievement and Emergency Assistance funding for families experiencing unforeseen challenges caused by COVID19.
However, we cannot do this alone! Our plea to our friends, family, associates, and St. Augustine Alumni is to join with us in this amazing opportunity to combat the negative effects of COVID19 in our community and give these young men an opportunity to garner an equitable education! The time to act is now, as we are committed to awarding this dollar for dollar matching donation no later than May 31, 2020. Our vow is to match the total of donations received up to $12,500. That's potential for a $25,000+ donation! Please know, no amount is too big, and no amount is too small when making a real and lasting difference in our community.
