Start Your Memoir from Scratch

Everyone has a story to tell. In this 6-week class we will generate new material as well as learn about the fundamentals of memoir writing, including vivid descriptions, setting, character development, point of view, and form. Participants will be expected to complete some readings/writing exercises outside of class.

Instructor: Lara Lillibridge (she/zher) is the author of Mama, Mama, Only Mama (Skyhorse, 2019), Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home (Skyhorse, 2018), and co-editor of the anthology, Feminine Rising: Voices of Power and Invisibility (Cynren Press, 2019). Lara judged creative nonfiction for AWP’s Intro Journal Project in 2019 and was the 2019 recipient of Hippocampus Magazine’s Literary Citizenship Award. She is the Interviews Editor at Hippocampus Magazine and currently serves as a mentor for AWP’s Writer to Writer program. Lara graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College’s MFA program in Creative Nonfiction, and in 2016 she won Slippery Elm Literary Journal’s Prose Contest, and The American Literary Review's Contest in Nonfiction.
