UF Hillel Religious Life Committee

Below are the Roles & Responsibilities for positions on the Religious Life Committee. This committee will work together with the UF Hillel professionals to develop a vision for Jewish religious life at UF and ensure diverse, vibrant opportunities for Jewish religious practice on campus.

Positions include Directors (as listed below) as well as Assistant Directors for each category. Please select up to two positions you are interested in holding on the committee.

Applications are due October 20.


General Committee Expectations

  • Participate in committee meetings every 2-3 weeks
  • Regularly attend Friday night Shabbat services and dinner
  • Collaborate with UF Hillel staff, committee directors and assistant directors to realize the vision of the Religious Life Committee and serve as an ambassador for religious Jewish life at UF

 

Managing Director

  • Supervising directors and maintaining accountability for activities and responsibilities of the larger committee; in partnership with UF Hillel staff, guide establishing and implementing religious life at Hillel.
  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to serving as the primary liaison to the student body for religious life, coordinating with Hillel staff to implement programs, and offering mentorship to Directors and Assistant Directors.
  • Prepare agendas and lead meetings every 2-3 weeks with Religious Life Committee.
  • For the first year, the Managing Director shall be appointed among the applicants for directors.

 

Director of Reform Jewish Life

  • Develop and implement a vision of Reform Jewish life in partnership with other student leaders and Hillel professionals.
  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to serving as the primary liaison to the student body for Reform life and coordinating Friday night service leaders and student participation.

 

Director of Conservative Jewish Life

  • Develop and implement a vision of Conservative Jewish life in partnership with other student leaders and Hillel professionals.
  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to serving as the primary liaison to the student body for Conservative life and coordinating Friday night service leaders and student participation.

 

Director of Orthodox Jewish Life

  • Develop and implement a vision of Orthodox Jewish life in partnership with other student leaders and Hillel professionals.
  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to serving as the primary liaison to the student body for Orthodox life and coordinating service leaders and minyan participation.

 

Director of Shabbat

  • Coordinate Shabbat evening rituals (MC for the evening, candle lighting before services, kiddush & hamotzi leaders) and occasional Havdallah experiences.
  • Develop and implement a vision of the overall Shabbat experience in partnership with other student leaders and Hillel professionals. Program examples include themed Shabbatot, speakers, after-dinner programs.

 

Director of Holidays

  • Develop and implement a vision for the Jewish holiday religious programming in partnership with other student leaders and Hillel professionals. 
  • Responsibilities may include helping service leaders with student participation in High Holidays, organizing tashlich, developing Sukkot and Simchat Torah programs, coordinating student Megillah readers, and planning Tu B’Shvat and Passover seders.
