We are currently based primarily in the Seattle area. We work with Seattle Children’s Hospital, Ronald MacDonald House, UW, Providence, Swedish, Evergreen, and Valley Medical Centers. We also work closely with Mary Bridge in Tacoma and Tacoma General, as well as the Multi-Care system in the South Sound area. We have recently expanded our services to include Spokane and the surrounding area hospitals. We always try to offer sessions to you that make the most sense for you and your commute time.
Soulumination Sessions are scheduled at the family's convience, either through them or a social worker. Sessions are often in the hospital, outside at a park, or in the family’s home. Generally at least one parent is present and often with both parents, siblings, and extended family members attending. The children for whom we photograph are aged 0-18 years and are facing life-threatening illnesses. The child does not have to be terminal for us to photograph them. Sometimes the child can move around and play, and other times where they can’t leave their bed and may be unable to move due to medical equipment. We do sessions when the child is coming off of life-support and the family asks for photos before the removal of life support only, after the equipment has been removed but only up until the child passes, or a combination of this including photos after the child’s passing. It can be very heart-breaking but rewarding work.
Our photographers are never obligated to take a session. When we get a request, we will text you. If you are available – great! We will get you booked and send you all of the details we have. If you are not available, we will try you again next time.
We also work with adults. We photograph for families with children ages 0-18 years whose parent is facing a life- threatening condition. A lot of our adult sessions are in the family’s home, but can be in any facility where they may be staying.
Your time commitment as a Volunteer Photographer with Soulumination can be as much as you would like. We have photographers who do several sessions a month and some who shoot for us twice a year. We do understand the value of your time and what a commitment that in itself can be.
Our photographers generally Dropbox us their edited images or they send us an invitation to access them online through Smug Mug, ShootProof, One Drive etc. Very little editing should be done to your images. We strive to make our Soulumination Sessions a cohesive body of work so we ask our photographers to aim for timeless, classic photos in order to achieve this across the board. Once we receive your images, your work is complete. We ask that you delete all files from your sessions 2 weeks after we reecieve them.
