The National Sexuality Education Standards (NSES) are written expectations for what students should know by the end of grades 2, 5, 8, and 12 to promote personal, family and community health. The standards provide a framework for curriculum development and selection, instruction and student assessment in health education. In addition, Teacher Preparation Standards were created to provide the next class of health education teachers the skills they need to become more knowledgeable and prepared on the topic of sex education. They can be found at:
TPPP has created a series of trainings on the NSES. To date, 17 professionals have completed the trainings.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Deaconess Foundation, TPPP would like to offer NSES trainings to in June 2017. They will be presented by grade level (Elementary, Middle and High School) with each training lasting two days (1 and 1/2 days for Elementary) from 9 am to 4 pm. They will be geared towards teachers, school nurses and counselors, but anyone who would like a better understand of the standards is invited to attend. These trainings will also include information on the Missouri Department of Elementary and Seconday Education Health standards that align the with NSES.
