Dr. La Donna M. Combs is a Lecturer, counselor, and advocate for victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Teen Dating Violence, Stalking, and Human Trafficking in Southeastern, MI. She is the President and CEO of the Sisters Against Abuse Society, (SAAS) a nonprofit organization bringing hope, help, and healing to victims and survivors of domestic & sexual violence in the black and African American Community. Her expertise spans more than 19 years in managing such programs as the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program, (SANE), Residential and Transitional Shelter & Treatment programs for victims, and Kids Club Youth Advocacy. She is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, MI and a former curriculum writer for the Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community, (IDVAAC) at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN. She is a consortium member of the African American Domestic Peace Project, (AADPP). A consummate Grant Writer who to date has obtained over 1.4 million dollars in funding for; domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and human trafficking prevention programming. A member of several boards and partnerships with organizations in the State of Michigan including the; Michigan Coalition to End Domestic & Sexual Violence, Transformation Detroit for Mental Health Research & Violence Prevention, Transition 1.2.3.,Inc. Lucille Brown Recovery Center & Shelter in Detroit, MI. She is the recipient of the Phenomenal Woman’s Award given by the AWARE Shelter in Jackson (2008), MI and the Phoenix Award from HAVEN the mainstream domestic violence service provider of Oakland County, MI (2009), and voted Women of the Year in 2019 by the Michigan Chronicle. For over 20 years she has been a minister of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW). Her host church is the Greater Grace Temple Church in Detroit, MI. Her published research entitled, “Does Until Death Do Us Part Include Domestic Violence?” is used by students, U.S. Military, and practitioners throughout the country. La Donna is also the co-author and participant in the documentary, “Speaking of Faith,” Domestic Violence Programs and the African American Church. La Donna has a Master’s Degree in Organization Management and is finishing her dissertation in Executive Leadership at the University of Charleston, West Virginia.

Sisters Against Abuse Society is a nonprofit organization providing culturally specific support resources and education for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence within the Black and African American Diaspora, and for Mainstream and Faith-based service organizations. The mission of SAAS is to bring hope, help, and healing to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault within the black and African American community without regards to gender, sexual orientation, religious or faith affiliation (or none at all), economic status, or culture.
