Join Stewardship Manager Matt Schultz to explore PHLT’s largest preserve and document our finds via iNaturalist, a nature app. Observations recorded during this event will count towards the 2024 City Nature Challenge event. Please bring a smartphone with the iNaturalist app loaded, or a camera. We will be walking slowly through the woods and documenting anything interesting that we come across – plants, bugs, fungi, birds, galls, etc. Not a typical nature hike!

About the City Nature Challenge (CNC):

You can also participate in the CNC on your own!

Despite its name, this challenge is not just for city-dwellers – the CNC is a global bioblitz event that takes place across 500+ regions and is aimed at getting people outdoors and observing whatever nature exists around them.

To participate, you make "observations" and upload them to the iNaturalist website or smartphone app. Observations are most commonly photos, but they could also be sound recordings (most commonly of birds or frogs).

Any observations that are uploaded within an 8-county region (Monroe, Pike, Wayne, Wyoming, Susquehanna, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Carbon) between April 26 - April 29 will count towards our regional effort in the challenge. So you can take a picture in your backyard, local city park, or favorite nature preserve (a PHLT preserve, we hope!) and just remember to upload the photos to iNaturalist so they count for our region in the challenge!
