Tandem Fund

The Tandem Fund provides gap scholarships to youth currently in the foster care system, alumni of foster care, and homeless or formerly homeless youth who are enrolled at Northwest Education Access.

It takes more than an acceptance letter, tuition, and attending classes to succeed in college. Students who have caring adults in their lives have a huge advantage. When a student can call and rely on a parent or other adult to send the extra check for books, a laptop, lab fees, a bus pass, or housing, they are simply in a better position to succeed. Tandem Fund recipients don't have that adult. What they have is tenacity, ambition, drive, and a desire to continue their education and make a better life for themselves and their families.

Eligible Tandem Fund recipients are NW Education Access students, ages 16-29, currently in the foster care system, alumni of foster care, homeless or formerly homeless young adults who attend college, trade, or vocational programs. In addition to financial support, NW Education Access provides students with free academic advising, career counseling, tutoring, books, technology access, and mentoring. Education Advocates are located on students' college campuses and in their community. Advocates work one-on-one with students to identify potential barriers to their academic success, address those barriers, and achieve their goals of higher education to overcome poverty and adversity.
