Civics that Empowers All Students II - 4th-8th Grade We the People Educator Application

Thank you for your interest in joining the second year of the We the People - Civics that Empower All 4th-8th Educator Cohort. You will joining in a meaningful series of professional learning events to support you and your students to advance Civic and Constitutional understanding and dialogue.  The dates are tentatively Tuesday, July 23 - Sunday 28, 2024.

For all interested educators in early elementary and high school, please still apply. We are seeking additional funding to support you. We expect to be able to accept 4-5 teachers outside the grant. 

We hope this is the beginning of years working together to a) equip and empower you with important civic knoweldge and pedagogy b) provide proven dialogue protocols to enhance civic and civil dialogue, and c) infuse We the People into your classroom curriculum to effectively teach civics.

Below is the application to learn about you, your students, and your commitment. You will be asked for a phone call or Zoom interview to make sure the research requirments are clear and that the program is a good fit for you and your students. Upon acceptance, a second survey will gather additional information to help us tailor the program to you specific needs including accessibility, food and lodging needs, and your hopes for your learning.

Please answer all questions to the best of your ability with what you expect for the 2024-2025 school year. We understand schedules are dynamic  - please keep us informed as changes are both understandable and expected. We are happy to work with you and your individual situation.

Please complete this application as soon as possible to secure your spot. Educators not accepted into the second cohort may be asked to join the Control Teaher cohort and reapply for 2025-2026. 

Note - for the 2024-2025 cohort, the summer sessions will occur in Boston and the year round professional learning and support will occur in Michigan and/or virtually.  Thank you!

Teacher Agreement and Expectations

Teachers are asked to participate to their fullest ability in all of the below.
I can attend the entirety of the summer sessions - approximately 6 full days. There will be approximately 16 academic year hours including in person, learning labs, and virtual sessions.
By participating in the CEAS - We the People Program, I agree to the following (please check all boxes to show your agreement):
I understand I will be paid a $500 stipend for participating in and completing the Program. I understand payment will occur only upon completion of all the requirements of the research study and at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
I understand I will have an interview. This may be done in person, on the phone, and/or over Zoom. This is to ensure complete understanding of the research requirements and to make sure this is a good fit for you and your students.
My administration is aware of and supportive of my involvement in the Program. MCCE will provide a letter to share with your administration for participation and to support you through the project requirements.
By applying, I understand photos, videos, and likeness of myself and my school and students may be used by the Michigan Center for Civic Education and its partners including the Center for Civic Education and the National Constitution Center.
By applying, I understand I will conduct myself professionally displaying professional vulnerability embracing opportunities to reflect and grow in my practice.
