One moment please...

November 29, 2021

Late last week, the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU) passed a motion to reaffirm their commitment to the Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions campaign. The language of the resolution mirrored that of a similar one passed a year ago by the same union. The motion – and the possible ramifications of the motion – are discriminatory, deplorable and condemnatory.

We were, of course, deeply disturbed by the union's position, and immediately lodged our concerns with the executives of the union, and members of the university administration; including President Meric Gertler directly. We also issued a public comment condemning the resolution, and published a story in the Times of Israel called Mounting Challenges at University of Toronto.

In response to expressions of concern from Hillel and other Jewish organizations, President Gertler issued a very strong condemnation of the resolution and committed to addressing the university’s concerns directly with the union.

We are tremendously grateful for the President's quick response, and for the strong language used. Please take a moment to thank President Gertler for his principled position, and to encourage UofT to continue taking positive steps to protect the rights of Jewish students.
