Our volunteer engagement opportunities typically occur from June through August each summer when we have our scholars in residence. Occasionally, however, opportunities do arise in our "off season", especially when our students are preparing for interviews.
Even if we do not have opportunities availalbe at present, we encourage you to sign up so that we can contact you as opportunities arise.
The main categories for volunteer engagement are:
Each summer, we strive to match mentors with each of our college students for the duration of their 10-week experience. Mentors are asked to keep in regular contact with our students (ideally, once a week) to listen to their challenges, give them advice, prepare them for interviews, and help review their resumes. Other shorter term opportunities arise regularly as well, especially when students need to prepare for interviews in the off-season.
We put our students through an intensive curriculum each summer. We have the content ready to go, but always leverage volunteers to come in and walk the students through the concepts, answer questions, and provide real-world examples of the concepts studied. These opportunities are generally limited to early summer (June and July).
Last summer, we hosted 50 different speakers to talk with our students about their career pathways and answer questions students have. Other times, we ask companies to put together a panel to speak to our students about the opportunities and diversity initiatives the company offers for prospective employees. We also host events like Women of Wall Street and our annual Stock Pitch Competition where speakers/judges are needed.
