Application for 2024 Baxter Youth Conservation Corps

The Baxter Youth Conservation Corps is a job training and service learning opportunity for youth from the Katahdin region of Maine. Since 2017, this program has been hiring local youth for full-time summer employment doing trail work in Baxter State Park. Participants gain valuable training, job skills, and work experience in a spectacular wilderness setting. Students currently enrolled in the following high schools in the Katahdin region are eligible to apply:

  • Stearns High School
  • Schenck High School
  • Katahdin High School
  • Southern Aroostook High School
  • Mattanawcook Academy
  • Homeschool students who live in one of the school districts listed above

Recent graduates of these schools (from 2022 and 2023) are also eligible to apply, as are seasonal residents of the Katahdin Region between the ages of 15 - 19.

  • Ability to hike over rugged terrain and perform physically challenging work for multiple days in a row

  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others in an outdoor setting
  • Open to new experiences, personal growth, and learning
  • Willingness to prioritize safety and well-being of entire crew
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong work ethic

Acceptance into the program is competitive and based on application responses, reference form, and interviews for selected applicants.

If you have previously participated in the program, we will consider your previous work with the Baxter Youth Conservation Corps during our application review, but there is no guarantee of being rehired. You will be considered alongside all other applicants in the 2024 applicant pool.

We strongly advise you to NOT fill out this application on your phone. Use a computer, take your time, and give us some detail in your responses. Try to put your best foot forward. A well-written answer of at least 3 - 4 sentences will improve your chances of getting an interview. The application form does not have the capacity to save your work, so you may want to prepare your responses in advance and then paste them into the various fields of the form.

The BYCC will run from June 17 to August 9, 2024. NEW THIS YEAR...crew members will now sign up to work with the BYCC for the entire season, or part of the season. Please check below if you would be interested in working for the entire 2024 season or for part of the season if you are hired.
