The “INs” and “OUTs” of Starting or Unsticking Your Memoir

Have you sat down to write your memoir and couldn’t even start? Or do you feel resistance to going back to the draft that’s been sitting in your drawer? What if it were possible to walk your way into the action of writing without penning a single word?

Join us as we utilize the who, what, when, where, why, and how to develop tools to gather both our internal (IN) and external (OUT) assets for the writing process. Discover how actions such as organizing your materials, finding accountability, and pulling from a power greater than yourself can both start and unstick even the most petulant process.

Each week we will use questions and considerations to balance our reserves by employing two tools: one IN and one OUT. By the end of the class you will have six tools to help access your writing both in regular practice and on an as needed basis.
Instructor: Amy London is an award-winning writer and storyteller. After surviving a traumatic brain injury in 2015, she returned to creative writing as part of her recovery. Her first non-fiction essay about brain injury was published in the anthology Surviving Brain Injury: Stories of Strength and Inspiration. She followed by winning Storyline Slam, telling her disability story within the theme of “magic.” Her micro-nonfiction on growing up LGBTQ, “When the Salve Stopped the Bleeding,” was a tournament finalist in The Nasiona. Her memoir shorts combining 12-step recovery, hard things, and hope are available at www.amylondon.com.
