Volunteer Role and Preferences
Presiding Judges. Scoring Judges. Facilitators. Zoom Room Helpers. Orientation Facilitators. Tabulation.
I am willing to volunteer as: ______. Please check all that apply.
Presiding Judge - The presiding judge officially oversees trial conduct. This includes all pre-trial, trial, and post trial proceedings. Ideally a current or formally sitting judge, this judge may both score and preside. A suggested script will be provided. Role reserved for sitting judges and experienced Mock Trial volunteers.
Scoring Judge - A scoring judge watches and assesses the trials. Ideally this person is familiar with hearing proceedings. This judge will not interact as a presiding judge yet would function as a 'jury' with time for feedback at the end of the trial. This role may be reserved for attorneys or others established in the legal field.
Court Officer - The officer plays the role of a time keeper, facilitator, and officer. The facilitator role is essential to the success of the hearing. Facilitators need to be comfortable enough with Zoom and with technology in general to help troubleshoot any issues that come in during the hearings themselves.
Other
Of the volunteer roles listed above that I checked, my preferred role/first choice is that of a ____.
Preclusions. If you have any affiliations with a certain person/school competing, please indicate this here. If no preclusions, please type n/a.
*
Please list any school and/or individual and their school who you may have real and/or perceived conflicts in judging.
Orientation.
Orientation Dates: MCCE will offer a series of orientations for virtual We the People processes. This is strongly recommended for new and returning volunteers. Please reserve one time slot to join us - either as facilitator or a judge. If you cannot make one of these times, please contact Ellen to schedule an individual orientation. If you don't know your calendar yet, no problem. We will reach out with a reminder closer to the competition.
