Mike's Hikes 5.26.2024: Geology of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Join WCC staff and members for a hike along the North Rim of the Black Canyon to Exclamation Point. Along the way geologist, Peter McCarville, will entertain you with this “old but young” feature called the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Hike from the North Rim visitor center to Exclamation point is 3 miles round trip with and additional hike to the top of Green Mountain if interest, time and weather permit. 

Difficulty: Easy. About 360 feet of elevation gain in three miles.

What to bring: Please make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring water and snacks.

Time: Meet at WSCC office (204 Poplar Ave. Paonia, CO) at 7:30 am.

Other notes: We will meet Peter at the Crawford library at 8:00 am. If you wish to meet us at the library instead of the WSCC office, please say so at the bottom of the form.

Sorry, no dogs are allowed on this hike.
