Writing Fiction in Uncertain Times
As part of the Inkubator Conference, Literary Cleveland presents Writing Fiction in Uncertain Times, a discussion with Dan Chaon and Katie Flynn.
Join world-renowned local novelist Dan Chaon as he conducts an informal discussion about writing fiction during a time of great upheaval with novelist Katie Flynn. Her new book, The Companions, tells the story of a company that uploads human consciousness before death and then downloads it into robots, which are sold as companions for people who are isolated during a global pandemic.
Dan Chaon is the acclaimed author of Among the Missing, which was a finalist for the National Book Award; You Remind Me of Me, which was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and Entertainment Weekly, among other publications; Await Your Reply, which was a New York Times Notable Book and appeared on more than a dozen best-of-the-year lists; Stay Awake; and Ill Will. Chaon has been a finalist for the National Magazine Award in Fiction, and he was the recipient of the 2006 Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Katie M. Flynn is a writer, editor, and educator based in San Francisco. Her short fiction has appeared in Colorado Review, Indiana Review, The Masters Review, and Tin House, among other publications.
