TWC Beaver Survey Training 2024

Join The Wetlands Conservancy's volunteer field team as we explore wetlands in search of beaver activity to confirm their presence and residence throughout Washington County and the Tualatin River Watershed. Become a community scientist and help log data on our local urban beaver populations!

What: Virtual Beaver Survey training

When: Sunday, September 8th, 10-11:30am

Where: Join us in the Zoom room! You'll receive a zoom link in your confirmation email, and your reminder email

Once trained*, you'll be able to sign up for guided surveys throughout the fall. Surveys take place on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings 8:30am-12:30pm throughout September and October.

  • Surveys can last 1.5-3 hours depending on the terrain and the level of beaver activity in the area
  • Surveys require the ability to wear chest waders, climb in and out of waterways, balance on very uneven ground including deep mud, and navigate obstacles

To ensure volunteer and staff safety:

  • Survey groups will be limited to 6 participants
  • Participants are required and remain 6ft apart
  • All equipment is provided and sanitized between uses
  • Surveyors must provide their own transportation to and from survey sites

Once trained, participants can use the Anecdata survey app to survey anywhere they might observe beaver activity! (as long as they can do so safely and without trespassing of course)

*If you're a returning community scientist we still ask that you attend this year's training. Things change every year and it is very helpful to have experienced surveyors in the room while we discuss protocol.
