K-12 educators in Utah are invited to apply for an in-the-field workshop this summer, focusing on Utah's geology, volcanoes and outdoor learning. Educators will receive access to curriculum that is aligned to SEEd Standards that they can easily implement in their classroom. This workshop is most appropriate for middle and high-school teachers, but all are invited to apply. This workshop will be capped at 20 participants. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

This workshop is free to attend and stipends will be provided for educators that will require lodging. Transportation will be provided to and from field sites, along with meals.

Before you apply, please read through the following schedule and information about the day in the field:

Tuesday, June 7th: Classroom Instruction at Westminster College

Wednesday, June 8th: Field Day, from 8am to 8pm

Thursday, June 9th: Classroom Instruction at Westminster College

Day in the Field Details: During this field excursion, we will spend approximately 6 hours driving to field sites and back to Salt Lake City. Transportation, meals and snacks will be provided and educators will not need to provide their own transportation to sites. Field locations are in Central Utah and participants may be exposed to sun, wind, and other weather conditions. Participants will need to be able to walk up to a mile at a time over sandy, rocky, steep and uneven terrain. At these sites, participants will have the opportunity to crawl and scramble over rocks, but this is not required. Sneakers and hiking boots are recommended.

Stipend Information: Educators traveling to attend this workshop may be eligible for a $300 stipend to cover lodging. Educators will be responsible for making their own travel arragements and reservations. Stipends are available on a first come, first serve basis. You can indicate your need for a stipend on the registration form.

Pre-Work: Upon acceptance, educators will have access to a Google Classroom course. Completion of this course is not required prior to the first day of the workshop, however, all educators are encouraged to review these materials.

COVID Best-Practices: To ensure the health and safety of all participants, we will be following the COVID protocols established by Westminster College. For more information, please refer to their website.
