2018 ShabUM Host Sign Up

ShabUM (SHä •Ÿ bo͞om) is a unique opportunity to take part in a campus-wide Shabbat celebration!

On Friday night, November 16th, YOU can create a warm intimate Shabbat experience on YOUR own terms with YOUR friends in YOUR own space - whether it is an apartment, lounge, Greek house, campus location, etc.

There will be no Shabbat dinner at Hillel on Friday, November 16th; instead, students will be hosting their fellow Wolverines for spirit-filled, intimate Shabbat dinners all across campus (and beyond)!

There is no "right" way to host a ShabUM dinner. It's YOUR meal in YOUR home!

As a ShabUM Host you can:
  • Cook a meal in your own home
  • Order take-out from a restaurant/caterer
  • Apply to Hillel for Kosher catering (this is only for public dinners of 25+ students and that apply for catering by Oct. 26th)
Following ShabUM, hosts who submit the reimbursement form with receipts will be reimbursed $10/person per guest.

As a host, you can decide if you would like to make your meal public to anyone interested in joining, or private and reserved for only those that you invite.

Please sign up to host by Friday, November 2nd.

For more information or with any questions, please contact Yoav (ShabUM Committe Chair) at yjacob@umich.edu or Sarit (Hillel staff) at sanstan@umich.edu.

SHABUM MEAL CATEGORIES

There will be 2 categories for guests to choose from when they register for ShabUM. The first category is called "Public Shabbat Dinners" where any guest is welcome to select a Shabbat dinner of their choice from the long list of options. We encourage you to open your home to anyone looking for a Shabbat dinner! You can still invite friends, but leave a few seats open! The second category is called "Private Shabbat Dinners" which is reserved for guests who have been personally invited by hosts.

Please see category description above.

We will take your Shabbat dinner off of the list of options once it reaches capacity. If there are friends you want to ensure have a place at your Shabbat dinner, encourage them to sign up right away!

We are offering two host orientation sessions to help you prepare for your meal, meet other hosts, and better understand the reimbursement process. Whether you are an expert host or have never hosted before, please choose one of these attendance options.
