In light of the recent presidential election, there have been a lot of discussions around how to get involved and protect ourselves, our communities, and democracy.
We all know democracy is not perfect and that there are a lot of barriers to voting especially for immigrant and formerly incarcerated populations. The beauty of democracy vouchers is that it’s another way for people to participate and have their voices heard. And a way for representatives who truly want to serve our communities and understand the issues LGBTQ folks deal with to run for office without campaign success being tied to fundraising and shmoozing wealthy donors.
This is where you come in. LGBTQ Allyship is looking for 3-5 badass people who are passionate about democracy reform that centers on the empowerment of marginalized communities. You will help drive the work to get the word out about democracy vouchers by providing information about the process to our communities and assist with getting folks registered to vote and/or signed up to use democracy vouchers in 2017.
The democracy justice committee will meet once a month. The first meeting will be December 14th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., subsequent meetings will be determined by consensus.
