Bike Repair 101 - Winter I

Start with the basics! Students will learn how to fix a flat tire, overhaul basic bearing systems, replace cables and housing, and adjust brakes and shifting. Students will work on bikes provided by Bike Works*. Students will work individually in designated areas to allow for 6+ feet of distancing. Class size is limited to six (6). Masks are required, and students are encouraged to have been vaccinated.

Class will meet at the Bike Works Warehouse (3715 S Hudson St) on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30pm**.

Start date: Tuesday 1/18.

End date: Tuesday 2/22.

This class is for adults age 18 and up.

*Bikes are carefully screened and distributed from Bike Works' inventory. After the bikes are checked, they will go to youth and adults in our Bikes-for-All program in SE Seattle. If you are interested in learning to work on your own bike, please stay tuned for future class offerings or contact adultprograms@bikeworks.org about Open Shop.

**Because Bike Works wants to limit the number of people in its spaces during COVID-19, please do not arrive earlier than 10 minutes before the class. Free and paid parking is available in Columbia City, and limited bike parking is available indoors.

All classes are pay-what-you-can, with options to offset the full cost by volunteering at Bike Works. Students will have one calendar year to complete their work trade.

If you cannot afford the full amount and cannot commit to volunteering at Bike Works, you can specify the amount that you are able to pay.

No students will be denied access due to lack of funds.
