Age Restrictions

To be a foster, trapper, or pet store volunteer with Laurel Cats, you must be at least 21 years of age. If you are younger than this, your parent may volunteer and allow you to assist. We have other positions available for younger volunteers.

Notes About Jobs

Fosters must be at least 21 years old and live in or near Laurel and have transporttaion.

Transport volunteers must have a flexible weekday schedule, a drivers license and a car.

The fundraising committee meeting once a month on a Wednesday night and plans our monthly restaurant fundraisers. Members then participate in marketing these events and staffing the welcome table at these events.

Trappers must have a flexible schedule, a car, be able to work on their own and think on their feet and be available to respond with short notice. Now that we have fixed more than 90% of the cats in Laurel, trappers are mostly responding to calls for rescue.

Our mascot is a fun job open to all ages. Mascot must be tall enough to wear an adult costume and available for monthly dinner fundraisers.

Most of our admin, marketing, and table staffing work is currently being done by the fundraising committee. If you are interested in these, please sign up for fundraising.

OUR PETSMART TEAM IS CURRENTLY FULL
PetSmart volunteers: PetSmart volunteers needs to be at least 21 years of age, and able to work independently, from about 2 to 4 pm, on a weekday or weekend, caring for possibly as many as 10 cats/kittens. To care for the cats at PetSmart, a person needs to be able to sanitize cages, clean litter boxes and carry trash and items to various parts of the store. Of course, playing with the cats is an important part of the job too. Training is provided, until you feel comfortable working alone, with at least three mandatory training sessions - about 2 hours, in the afternoon.








Volunteer Agreement

This is a legal document which affects, binds, and limits the legal rights of volunteers working with Laurel Cats, Inc., and of individuals agreeing to provide foster homes for cats (persons collectively termed as “Participants.”) Each Participant attests that he or she fully understands the contents of this document, and accepts its terms for him/herself and on behalf of his or her heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin.

1. DISCLOSURE OF RISK: I am fully aware that fostering any animal through Laurel Cats, Inc., or volunteering to assist in rescue, transport, trapping, or related efforts may have both known and unknown risks. I acknowledge that fostering any animal or volunteering at any event involving animal rescue or maintenance may involve potential injury, loss of property, or other physical harm. These risks may include but are not limited to being bitten or clawed by animals, lifting animals or crates, vehicular traffic, actions of other people including but not limited to Participants, volunteers and spectators.

2. ASSUMPTION OF RISKS INHERENT TO PARTICIPATING IN RESCUE OR TRANSPORT WORK: I freely and voluntarily assume and accept the risk of any injury or harm to my person or property which may result from handling or fostering any animal. I understand that it is my responsibility to wear protective garb including leather gloves, long pants, and closed shoes. It is my personal decision whether to seek and secure vaccination for rabies or other known risks of animal handling. Vaccination against Feline Leukemia for resident cats should be considered and discussed with your veteriarian if you have cats living in your home.

3. GLOBAL RELEASE FROM DAMAGES AND LEGAL ACTION: I agree fully and without reservation to release, absolve and forever discharge Laurel Cats, Inc., as well as all of its directors, officers, volunteers and other Participants, from any potential claim or liability for loss, damage, injury, or expense that I as Participant (or my next of kin) may suffer, arising out of the inherent risks of participation in fostering or volunteering. This release expressly refers to and includes all instruction I may have received, either before or while participating in fostering or volunteering.

4. INSURANCE AND PHYSICAL CONDITION: I understand that Laurel Cats, Inc., is not providing any medical or other insurance benefits to me. I am currently in good health, as attested by my personal physicians, and I declare that I have no physical condition, disability, or injury that would make it dangerous for me to participate in fostering or volunteering with Laurel Cats, Inc.

5. AGREEMENT FOR ARBITRATION: I agree that should any dispute arise regarding the terms of this agreement, or my activities in conjunction with Laurel Cats, Inc., I consent in lieu of litigation to have all such disputes submitted to and resolved by a neutral arbitrator acceptable to all parties to that claim or dispute.

6. PHOTOGRAPHS: I hereby grant Laurel Cats, Inc., permission to use my likeness in a photograph, video, or other digital media (“photo”) in any and all of its publications, including web-based publications, without payment or other consideration. I understand and agree that all photos will become the property of Laurel Cats, Inc., and will not be returned. I hereby irrevocably authorize Laurel Cats, Inc., to edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish, or distribute these photos for any lawful purpose. In addition, I waive any right to inspect or approve the finished product wherein my likeness appears. Additionally, I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of the photo. I hereby hold harmless, release, and forever discharge the Laurel Cats, Inc., from all claims, demands, and causes of action which I, my heirs, representatives, executors, administrators, or any other persons acting on my behalf or on behalf of my estate have or may have by reason of this authorization.

I CERTIFY THAT I HAVE READ THE ABOVE AGREEMENT, AND I FULLY UNDERSTAND THIS IS A RELEASE OF LIABILITY WHICH I HAVE SIGNED OF MY OWN FREE WILL, GIVING UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS. ITS TERMS HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED ORALLY, AND I HAVE SIGNED AND DATED THIS AGREEMENT VOLUNTARILY.
