Family Reunion BBQ 2023

The Family Reunion BBQ is a joy space for Black LGBTQ+ people to celebrate Family and create connections across generations that honor our identities and sense of belonging.

Black chosen families are a tradition of forming deep bonds rooted in community, pleasure, safety, and love with others despite forces of racism, transphobia, and homophobia break our relationships with biological families. Chosen family is an essential support system, providing love, acceptance, and a sense of belonging.
 
Affinity Community Services is an intergenerational community of Black lesbians, bisexuals, trans and non-binary people across Chicago with the mission of meeting the needs of the Black LGBTQ community, particularly women.
 
Come enjoy free BBQ, music, and fun activites to celebrate Pride, Juneteenth, and Chosen Family with us.

Fresh BBQ is an important part of the Family Reunion tradition. A lunch by Lexington Betty's Smokehouse is included with your reservation. Do you have a protein preference we can keep in mind?
RSVP Guidelines

Thank you for bringing people to the Family Reunion!

To ensure enough food and supplies, we only accept 1 RSVP form per adult.

Please complete a seperate RSVP form for additional adults.

Accessibility

This event is outdoors with limited shade provided by trees and the covered pavillion. There are a limited number of seating at tables under the covered pavillion, we will provide folding chairs, and open seating is available on the grass lawn. Additional amentities include a handwashing station, first aid tent, and wheelchair accessible bathroom. The event is approximately 200 ft away from the parking lot and 300 ft away from the CTA bus stop located at the intersection of Western Ave & 83rd St. Masks and social distancing are highly encouraged. 


Children

The Family Reunion is a welcoming and affirming space for the whole family. Children of all ages are happy welcome!

This helps us make sure there is enough food available.

This helps us ensure there are enough age-appropriate activities and games. Ex. 10 months old, 5 years old, and 16 years old.

Media

We will be taking photographs to document the event. Let us know if you are comfortable being included photos.
I agree to be photographed, videotaped, and/or recorded while volunteering with Affinity Community Services. I understand that Affinity Community Services will own rights to and may use this media (photographs, videos, audio recordings, and/or my statements), in whole or part, in Affinity Community Services materials such as printed publications, the Affinity Community Services website (www.affinity95.org), videos, social media, grant proposals, and promotional materials to support Affinity Community Services and its programs. As far as I know, what I say and do in this media will not violate the rights of any other person or company. If I no longer want my photos and/or story to be used, I agree to contact the Affinity Community Services at info@affinity95.org or 773-324-0377. Once requested, Affinity Community Service will not create new materials using participants’ media – but we may continue to use already printed materials until we can make replacements.

At the check-in table please make sure to grab a lanyard to wear during the event.

We will not use any media (photos/videos) of individuals who are wearing lanyards.
