BLM's Proposed Resource Managment Plan
The BLM's Proposed Resource Managment Plan (RMP) for the Uncompahgre Field Office is the wrong plan for Western Colorado. The Proposed RMP prioritizes resource extraction over the health of our public lands, opening vast amounts of our watershed to oil & gas development. The proposed RMP fails to adequately protect our water resources, air quality, viewsheds and landscapes, wildlife, our historic farms and ranches, and our community's sustainable economic future. There is a better, locally-derived plan that will protect our public lands - the North Fork Alternative Plan.
The North Fork Alternative Plan (NFAP), a community-driven plan, provides a baseline level of management needed to ensure that the value of our public lands - healthy lands and water, air quality, wildlife habitat, scenic and recreational attributes - are not diminished. The NFAP and all other conservation protections in Alternative B are the only reasonable proposed actions for protecting the resources essential to the health and well-being of our communities.
Tell the BLM and our elected officials that the Proposed RMP fails to protect our water, air, agriculture, wildlife, and way of life in rural Colorado. The North Fork Alternative is a common sense plan for managing the many public natural resources within the North Fork of the Gunnison watershed.
