2023 Individual Membership Appeal

The Friends of Fort Knox became a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit in 1992 (over 30 years ago) with the mission to preserve the Fort as a historic landmark and enhance its educational, cultural and economic value for the people of Maine. Our non-profit status allows FoFK to raise funds to operate and maintain the Fort and grounds and continue major preservation/repair projects without state funding.

Last year’s project work included repairs to the Officer Quarters brick wall and Northeast façade wall.  We repaired significant erosion issues, expanded the areas to reveal a historic stone wall, installed wood flooring in the Ordinance Storeroom and upgraded HVAC systems in the VC restrooms. This year, we are applying for grants to add to funds raised over past years to continue repairs to the north side of Two-Step Alley, develop a virtual tour app and complete a major LED upgrade to the Fort façade lighting.

Fright at the Fort returned in 2022 along with the Boy Scout Camporee at Fort Knox.  Last season we hosted Civil War Encampment, Superhero Day, Wizarding Day, Ghost Tours/Camps, Ten Buck Theater’s Shakespeare Under the Stars and Paranormal Fair.  Our 2023 schedule is already full as we plan for the return of Scottish Tattoo and Medieval Faire
