Advanced Workshop: Writing About the Body in CNF

This class is an advanced version of the all-levels Muscle Memory workshop which explores different techniques and categories of writing about the body. For writers who have been published before and are looking for a more in-depth look at their work, this workshop will offer weekly sessions where we will discuss a specific reading for one hour and workshop 1-2 students' essays. Instead of focusing on technique, this workshop will serve more for editing purposes by exploring the ways that student work can further the narrative to get to more visceral and raw writing about the body, in physical, emotional, and psychological forms. All work for this class should be drafted and submitted on the first day of class to allow for ample reading and feedback from peers and the instructor.

Instructor: Negesti Kaudo is a Midwestern essayist who holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from Columbia College Chicago. She is the youngest winner of the Ohioana Library Association's Walter Rumsey Marvin grant (2015) for unpublished writers under 30. She is a Pushcart Prize nominee and alumni of the Ragdale Residency and Winter Tangerine workshop. Kaudo has worked as a copywriter, a sex toy columnist, and an adjunct writing instructor. Her work has appeared in Fourth Genre, Best American Experimental Writing, Seneca Review, and elsewhere. Her debut collection, Ripe: Essays will be published by Mad Creek Books/The Ohio State University Press in 2022.
