One moment please...

How Do You Become a Volunteer?

As we work to build the vision of our farm in the city, we are indebted to our volunteers who come from all walks of life, giving their time, energy, and talents. Please complete our volunteer intake form below so that we can learn more about you in order to connect you to specific projects that match your interests and talents.

If you have specific questions, please contact our Operations Manager at emilyrappeddy@pitneymeadows.org.

Group Volunteering

As stewards of this legendary landscape, we are honored to partner with neighbors and stakeholders who offer their time and talents in support of our mission. We welcome inquiries from volunteer groups.

Outdoor volunteer opportunities are available between April and October. Possible activities include planting, weeding, harvesting, painting, and cleaning. Volunteers work closely with our staff, and all necessary equipment and instruction is provided. Activities can be tailored to accommodate the size of your group and participants’ particular skills or fitness levels.

All volunteer groups must be scheduled in advance. Date and project availability varies throughout the year. All volunteers must sign a waiver before participating. Please contact emilyrappeddy@pitneymeadows.org to discuss your corporate volunteer opportunity.

Professional, Business, and Community Service Opportunities

Occasionally, we seek the assistance of local builders, contractors, architects, engineers and others for infrastructure projects. We're also happy to collaborate with businesses and corporations on single projects or group efforts.

We also welcome students who are seeking to fulfill community service opportunities. Please contact emilyrappeddy@pitneymeadows.org to discuss in more detail.

Volunteer Orientation

Volunteer orientations will be held several times throughout the year as the need arises. Once you complete the volunteer form you will be notified of the next available volunteer orientation.

What are your areas of interest?
  • Farm-based activities: Help our farm team with summer weeding and harvests for food pantry donations, as well as late-season harvests of carrots, potatoes and squash. No experience needed.
  • Help Feed Your Community/Food Pantry: We'll be targeting certain neighborhoods within our region where access to fresh produce is limited, offering pop-up markets that bring vegetables directly to families experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers can help with Saturday pop-up markets and food pantry deliveries.
  • Trails/Recreation: Become a trail monitor to check our hiking trails on a regular basis, or become a trail steward, bringing your skills to future trail projects, including site work, construction, plantings, etc.
  • Education/Programs: Assist with programs as co-facilitator, or lend a hand with material setup or cleanup. Look for place-based, experiential programming for all ages.
  • Events: Events welcome a diverse array of community building opportunities, which are made possible through local collaborations. Help us welcome the community onto the farm by joining us for setup, cleanup, parking and registration.
  • Infrastructure:  Our infrastructure expansions and projects directly increase our organization's capacity and impact. This work requires many areas of expertise, including in-kind professional services in construction/building trades, structural engineering, architecture, painting, fencing, etc.

What special skills would you like to bring to your volunteer work? What is your professional background? What organizations are you involved with that would be good partners with Pitney Meadows?

Note: Pitney Meadows reserves the right to conduct a background check on any individual volunteering at the farm.
