9/11 Nomination Form

After reviewing the criteria for a nomination, fill out the information on the person or organization that is nominating the individual or Organization, depending on the category; then fill in the information about the nominee.  Once completed submit the application. There is no cost.

Any serving police officer or public official, any retired within 3 years of March 2017 may be submitted for nomination based on the criteria outlined. Submission for nominations close on May 26, 2017.

The Order of International Police and Public Safety was established to recognize those most extraordinary individuals who are in law enforcement and public safety, in the name of those officers who perished on 9/11, and other first responders worldwide who too gave their lives due to acts of terrorism and terrorist activty. 

The individual or organization nominated must have demonstrated the highest in moral character and demonstrated distinguished achievement as it relates to their work for act of heroism, prevention, other specific acts, projects or lifetime work in relation to fighting terrorism and or serious and transnational crime. 

  • Police Officer or Public Safety Official:  International Police & Public Safety Medal for Valor - IPMv
    • For any act of heroism in the course of a terrorism incident at anytime or anyplace; or
    • For any act of herosim in the course  of a serious crime incident without regard to self, taking place at or connected with a transporation or border authority.
  • Police Officer or Public Safety Official: International Police & Public Safety Medal - IPM
    • For extrodinary and distingished achievenment of thier own actions contributing to the protection of Country and the Global community
  • Police Officer or Public Safety Official: 9/11 Security Commendation Medal - IPMc
    • For extrodinary and distingished leadership of their own actions - Individual
    • For extrodinary and distingished leadership and accomplishment - organization


There are eleven eligible categories.  The 9/11 Committee may select up to three individuals* per category each year.  In order to be eligible the individual must be an active, retired or deceased officer within three years of 2017; and must be an officer or official working in law enforcement or public safety from a public/government organization.   

*If in the case of heroism there are more than one individual involved, then a single nomination can support those multiple individuals involved and if substantiated, each would be awarded a 9/11 Medal.  

With the exception of Lifetime Achievement, nominations may be made for a specific act or an accumulated time period.  

9/11 Medal for Heroism (V); 9/11 Medal for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement; 9/11 Medal for Aviation; 9/11 Medal for Maritime; 9/11 Medal for Transportation; 9/11 Medal for Emergency Management; 9/11 Medal for Border Management; 9/11 Medal for Counterterrorism; 9/11 Medal for Intelligence; 9/11 Medal for Science & Technology; and the 9/11 Security Commendation Medal for Leadership as in indivdual or for an organization.

*Retired recipients need to be supported by individual's authority.
