Join Marion and Barbara to discuss three books of contemporary poetry written as collaborations between two poets. First, we will read LACE AND PYRITE, by Ross Gay and Aimee Nezhukumatathil, followed by IN THE FIELD BETWEEN US by Molly McCully Brown and Susannah Nevison. And finally, BRIGHT POWER DARK PEACE by Traci Brimhall and Brynn Saito. Through close reading and discussion, we’ll discover the lyric potential of poets responding to one another about physical limitations, about what might be salvaged from devastation, and about tending to the self and the earth.
No matter how familiar you are with poetry, we invite you to an open and welcoming conversation. Every session will offer several generative prompts based on the topics and poetic style exemplified by each of the three books.

Instructor: Marion Starling Boyer’s Ice Hours was selected for the 2021 Wheelbarrow Books Poetry Prize, to be released January 2023 from Michigan State University Press. She is author of The Sea Was Never Far, The Clock of the Long Now, and Composing the Rain, winner of Grayson Books’ Chapbook competition. Her work’s been nominated for Pushcarts, the Lenore Marshall Award, and “Best of the Net.” A professor emeritus for Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Boyer conducts workshops for Lit Cleveland and Lit Youngstown. Barbara Sabol's fourth poetry collection, Imagine a Town, won the 2019 poetry manuscript prize from Sheila-Na-Gig Editions. Her work has appeared most recently in Evening Street Review, One Art, Mezzo Cammin, Literary Accents and Modern Haiku, and in numerous anthologies. Barbara received her MFA from Spalding University. Her awards include an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council. She is a retired speech therapist who lives in Akron, OH with her husband and wonder dogs.
