Issue Question 1:
Answer one of these three questions:
- Some NATO member-state leaders and analysts have proposed sending European combat troops to directly intervene in Ukraine if Russia continues to make gains in its invasion. How should the United States view this prospect?
- Hypothetical Scenario: You are national security advisor to the U.S. President. There has been growing tension between China and Nepal. Intelligence agencies advise that China is massing forces on Nepal's border, and communications intercepts suggest a plan that China may invade the country and integrate it into China. India approaches the United States and proposes the immediate deployment of a joint U.S.-Indian military force into Nepal to deter a potential Chinese invasion. How would you advise the President to respond to the Indian proposal?
- Should the United States encourage its European allies to bolster their military presence in the Indo-Pacific to counter China or urge them to concentrate greater military resources on defending Europe from Russian aggression?
Issue Question 2:
- Consider the region of the world or issue area you know best. What defense or foreign policy problems do you foresee in that field in the next 3 to 5 years? What role do you envision for U.S. policy in addressing those problems?
