How to Approach the Memoir: Narrating Your Life Story

How to Approach the Memoir: Narrating Your Life Story is designed for someone who wants to write a memoir but hasn't started or is in the very early stages of a first draft. It will cover where to start, determining a theme, how to organize the story, the type of research you should conduct, how to trigger memories, protecting identities and other questions most writers have when considering writing their life story.

This class includes three assignments: drafting a timeline of defining moments, gathering photos or other memorabilia and conducting an interview. Participants will also be encouraged to complete at least one chapter. Participating in peer critique will also be encouraged. After completing this class, participants will feel confident that their life story is worth sharing and in their ability to craft it.

Instructor: Rhonda Crowder holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in creative writing, editing and publishing from Cleveland State University. She is a journalist, manuscript editor, entrepreneur, associate publisher, author, literacy advocate and humanitarian who has been recognized by several organizations for service to her community including being named a 2019 Cleveland Champion. Her debut novel is titled Riddles.

Details: How to Approach the Memoir: Narrating Your Life Story takes place Mondays January 10, January 24, and February 7 from 7-9pm remotely through Zoom.
