Mysterious Moths Night

Touch the Earth Natural Area (Bartholomew County)
Friday, July 26, 8:30-10:30pm

In celebration of National Moth Week, Sycamore Land Trust is thrilled to offer this nighttime ‘mothing’ opportunity led by expert naturalist, Jeanette Jaskula. We will delight in the mystery of moths using light and other lures to attract them for observation. Witness their patterns, colors, and behaviors, as well as learn about the essential role of moths as pollinators and part of the food web. Discover how to provide habitat for moths by planting native plants and promoting dark skies at night. Find out how to contribute to community science by reporting moth sightings through the Great American Indiana Nature Lepidoptera Project (GAINLP). Jeanette Jaskula has a master's degree in environmental science from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. She has studied a variety of taxa from salamanders to birds to bats. Since 2019, moths have been her passion. She has photographed over 700 species in her Boone Co. backyard and over 1,300 species in Indiana. Jeanette enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for these under-appreciated creatures of the night.
