Intro to Ashkenazi Alef-Beys (for Hebrew and Yiddish) (10 sessions):
Mondays | 5:30pm-7pm PST | on Zoom
Starting on October 14 and ending on December 16
_
This *is* your bubbie's Hebrew school class!
The Ashkenazi dialect of Hebrew has been less and less commonly heard in mainstream Jewish spheres, replaced largely by modern Israeli Hebrew. And yet, for many of us in the diaspora this was the primary dialect used in both prayer and vernacular use by our ancestors going back generations!
Have you been interested in davening/leyning Torah like your ancestors did in the shtetl? Have you been wanting to learn Yiddish but were intimidated by the script? Have you been wondering why is it that some folks say "shabbat" and others say "shabbos''? Nu, then this is the class for you!
This class will be taught in English and is open to students of all levels of Hebrew/Yiddish proficiency (including/especially complete beginners!)
This class is open to folks of all ages, abilities, orientations and gender identities, with space held for queer and trans folks.
Queer Yiddish - Beginner 2 (10 sessions):
Mondays | 7:30pm-9pm PST | on Zoom
Starting on October 14 and ending on December 16
_
Lomir geyn vayter!
Let's continue our adventure in Queer Yiddishland! We'll build on the communication skills that we learned in Queer Yiddish 101 -- we'll explore more about how to express our queer identities in the mame-loshn, and also learn some great Yiddish songs to sing at protests!
Recommended for those that have taken Queer Yiddish 101, or who have already have a foundation in the Yiddish alef-beys. This class is open to folks of all ages, abilities, orientations and gender identities, with space held for queer and trans folks.

Intro to Ashkenazi Hebrew Cantillation (8 sessions):
Wednesdays | 6:30pm-8pm PST | on Zoom
Starting on October 9 and ending on December 18
(skipping Oct 16 and 23 for Sukkos)

In this class, we will be going over and practicing all the different Torah trop (trope/cantillation), practicing what we learn with excerpts from the Torah, as well as learning Ashkenazi Hebrew pronunciation. Whether you have a Torah parsha that you're preparing for your B'nei Mitzvah, or you're interested in being able to leyn (chant) from the Sefer Torah during services, or want to learn Torah trop for any other reason, we'd love to have you join us! Students are welcome and encouraged, but in no way are required, to bring a particular Torah text to learn.
This class will be taught in English. Prior knowledge of the Hebrew script is required.
This class is open to folks of all ages, abilities, orientations and gender identities, with space held for queer and trans folks.
