Prairie Strips Field Day, September 5, 2024, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Doug Doughty Farm, Chillicothe, Livingston County, Missouri

During this free field day, hosted by landowner Doug Doughty and organized by the Missouri Prairie Foundation and Iowa State University, participants will learn about the benefits of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) prairie strips practice, CP-43. Prairie strips are a conservation practice that protects soil and water while providing habitat for wildlife through the integration of native perennial plants into strategic locations within or around corn and soybean fields. In addition to a tour of prairie strips, the field day will also include a tour of 300+ additional acres of native prairie plantings in various stages of establishment.

Representatives from Iowa State University, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Missouri Prairie Foundation will share information about site benefits of prairie strips, site preparation, seeding, and stewardship during this field tour.

Row crop producers and recreational landowners are especially encouraged to attend, as well as, agency staff and others interested in learning about the benefits of establishing prairie strips and/or incorporating other native plantings in farm operations.

The tour is free, and lunch is included. Directions and more details will be emailed to registrants.
