Belonging, Inclusion, & Friendships Statement:
Onaway seeks to ensure everyone, especially our new campers, feel a deep sense of belonging within the community. In order to achieve that goal, we honor individuality while cultivating community. We encourage everyone to be their best, authentic selves. We welcome campers and staff from all over the country and the world. As a community, we embrace individuals with a diversity of backgrounds and identities. With the support of staff, campers help us build an open and accepting community where all can thrive.
We value friendships at Onaway and encourage all campers to be themselves. We understand the importance that friendships have in a young person’s life, and we want to help cultivate that at Onaway. In order to ensure all campers feel included and a deep sense of belonging at Onaway, we counsel campers away from exclusive relationships of any kind as they are counter to our mission statement and purpose and the goals of creating an inclusive community. Onaway strives to empower its campers to create authentic friendships that simultaneously allow for broad feelings of inclusion for all members of the Onaway community, as they serve as an opportunity to learn about one’s self and others.
