#B249 Learning the Spinning Wheel

Learn to spin on a spinning wheel. In this class you will learn all about the various parts of a spinning wheel, and how to prepare fibers for spinning. Each student will have an Ashford spinning wheel to learn on during the workshop. You will learn to not only create singles, but to do basic plying as well. Roving will be provided, but you’ll need to bring yourself a lunch.
About the Instructor: Mary Jeanne Goss – Fiber Artist
I graduated from Ohio State University in 1977 with a degree in Art Education and a minor in Weaving. While attending O.S.U., I studied under the master weaver Clara Creager , who also taught me how to spin. I own four alpacas, and have sold handspun yarns in the past. I have taught spinning at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio and demonstrated spinning at Frontier Spirit at Alley Park. The textile arts have been my hobby and passion for over 40 years. The Dairy Barn Arts Center does not issue refunds for classes and workshops unless said class or workshop is cancelled by the Dairy Barn. If a class or workshop is cancelled by the Dairy Barn, you may either request a refund, or have your payment credited to future events such as classes, workshops, or camps. Winter Weather note: If The Athens County Sheriff declares a level 3 snow emergency that hasn't lifted before noon, classes and workshops at the Dairy Barn that day may be cancelled. If classes are cancelled, we will post to facebook and attempt to reach participants via email or phone. However, If the weather is bad, we advise participants to call ahead and confirm that the Barn is open.
For participants under the age of 18: I (name above) as the participant's legal guardian give permission for my child to participate in this Dairy Barn workshop or class and corresponding activities. In case of accident or serious illness, I request that I be contacted. I give permission for emergency medical treatment and to be transferred to the nearest medical facility. I agree to assume all costs related to such treatment and I release the Dairy Barn from any responsibility for injury or illness that may occur while my child participates. I understand that typing my name below constitutes my legal signature.
