Please consider being a part of a very cool social justice art project to elevate the voice of our youth and raise awareness about school absence and empty chairs in school. Using vintage chairs and desks, student artists in Ypsilanti and Detroit create mixed media art, each that explores a single true story of a student’s story of missing school, often due to discipline and complex life circumstances.
Student Advocacy Center has been working since 1975 to fill those seats and keep students in school, learning and growing.
Please considering sponsoring one of these pieces. By sponsoring this unique and powerful art work, you will not only be afforded special recognition at our annual storytelling event on April 17, you will also be able to take your chair with you after the event. We simply ask that you feature the chair in your office (or other public venue) for at least 30 days so that others can benefit from its powerful message.
Learn about the sponsorship levels here.
Sponsors make a donation at the $250 or $500 level AND make a commitment to publicly display the art for a month after the April 17 event. In turn, sponsors will receive:
Sponsors who attend the event can pick up the chair at the end. For those who need delivery, we ask you to consider an additional donation. After the month of display, sponsors can sell the pieces, keep them, donate them, etc. For those who sell the pieces, we ask you to consider donating back any proceeds to SAC.
Funds raised support SAC's mission of keeping underserved students in school. More details here: http://www.studentadvocacycenter.org/emptychair/
